In 1971, a law had been passed in California, making it illegal to use a person's likeness or name for commercial purposes without their consent. In late October of 1988, Temple Black was able to stop the use of her name associated with the sale of Shirley T. The court order stated that the company could sell existing inventory of the product, but it had to be relabeled to exclude her name. Today, you can easily purchase drinks with the Shirley Temple name on them in both mocktail and alcoholic varieties.
