Blake's Ecstatic Beauty
The first time I would have actually come across Blake in any like serious appropriation of his work would actually be the film Hannibal, where the guy eats. He's sort of a villainous Blakey and that was probably my first like, oh, maybe I won't read Blake, but there you go. One thing I noticed immediately is seeds of suffering and doubt and harshness thrown into what is like an ecstatic beauty. And all of a sudden you're left with a sense of like positive unease. That's really interesting. So just as innocence has its kind of extraordinary intelligence, I think conversely, it is possible to travel through a world of experience with a kind of innocence and discover
