Intravenous Loop Diuretic Therapy for Heart Failure

Intravenous loop diuretic therapy provides the most rapid and effective treatment for signs and symptoms of congestion. Patration to achieve effective diuretics may require doubling of initial doses, adding a thiazide diuretic, or adding an MRA that has diuretic effects in addition to cardiovascular benefits. For patients hospitalized with heart failure, therapy with diuretics should be titrated with a goal to resolve clinical evidence of congestion to reduce symptoms and rehospitalization.
