The Kessler Syndrome

The Kessler syndrome is this theorized point where all of the space junk that is orbiting around the Earth crashes into each other. And eventually, all you've got around the Earth is just a buzzing whirling sphere of metal moving at 28,000 kilometers per hour. Any attempt to fly a spacecraft out of the Earth just passes through this grinder and just gets turned in dust - it's not exactly accurate. But then because of the increased space in between the objects, you're probably never getting it to this point where space is impassable. It's just that it's going to be a friction that you're going to lose spacecraft from time to time as there's more and more space
