Parents are putting way more value on these elite institutions than they were 40 years ago. So why is this happening? It's a status symbol, right? Well, sure. Tell your friends your kid goes to Stanford. There is no bigger flex. I think the move away from standardized testing that tell you how good you are at taking the test has also changed perceptions of these schools.
