The O'Donnells and the Famine of 1848

Bridget O'Donnell was evicted from her home in Granatouha, near Kilrush. Her husband had borrowed money to plant a crop of oats which he paid for on credit. Marcus Keene became increasingly powerful and ruthless as the famine went on. He foreclosed on Bridget's family after they failed to pay their rent. His men then took away his crops and thrashed them in another farm barn.
