Scientists at Erie have developed rice varieties that are resistant to floods, droughts and heat. They've also created more nutritious grains of rice which have more iron and zinc. These types of varieties combined with innovations in crop management can significantly reduce the environmental damage of rice and increase yields. But the challenge right now is expanding from small experiments and pilots to implementation at scale.
