Is There a God in the World?

On Earth, life expectancy before the 1900s was seldom above 30 years old. In a fantasy setting especially, the magical healing or laying on of hands typically means that a God's power has been channeled through somebody's body which is being used as a vessel to heal the wounded. We can still do this in science fiction but typically what we're going to see is medicine that is far in advance of what we have today on Earth. But something we should avoid with either of these is making it too easy for someone to be completely healed with no real consequence to the person or the technology that did the healing. For me these scenes lack any drama at all.
