The first era of the internet to me, the main algorithm was Google's PageRank. The second era was the smartphone social media era. I think it's easy to underestimate just how much those algorithms determine what it is we encounter each day on our phone when we slide it open. And in both cases, right, these were digital gatekeepers that were the successor to the era of news channels and some guy in a corporate room choosing what you saw.
