The author was travelling up a river that had a very powerful current. He used a rope to pull his canoe through the water as he climbed along the shore. But there are rapids, eddies and hidden rocks just beneath the water line. If you're not a hundred per cent correct, your canoe can easily flip over. 'If i was one second sooner, my canoe was gone,' says Mr Johnson.

We live in a noisy world by any estimation. And while we need people, we also need solitude.

This week I’m speaking with Adam Shoalts, who was named one of the “greatest living explorers” by Canadian Geographic. Adam is an author, speaker, and adventurer who has learned to tap into the rejuvenating power of solitude.
