The Effects of Stereotypes on the Perception of Other People

Stereotypes affect the perception of people that are part of their in group and also peoples from out groups. It probably is experienced as annoying as presumptuous to discover that somebody makes assumptions about you based on stereotypes, even if they're flattering stereotypes. People often want to believe that their groups are better than other people. But that's an attitudinal emotional thing that's different than their beliefs about the characteristics, which is the stereotype.
