There are some things we say about god that aren't aimed at truth, if you like. The way im aquinas and subsequent people have talked about this has been as metaphor. But i call this in in my work, devoted talk, o talk that is there for devotional reasons, but isn't necessarily aimed at truth as its primary objective. So aptat actually helps theology in terms of getting rid of some of these really, really awful ideas that would lead to all sorts of sinful behavior.
