The Occam's Razor
One theory is that she was trying to find an uninhabited island. She may have run out of fuel in the search and crash landed somewhere else. Nuku Mororo comes up because it lies on her last transmission. It's also quite close to Helen Island, which kind of strengthens the idea as her final communications were strong.
