Starbuck's is using gift cards as a way to grow their business. There are almost two billion dollars loaded into these cards, and that's bellin. They don't have to deal with all the regulatory stuff so they can keep some of the money in deeposits or like a loyalty cardan ap. The idea of getting people to buy gift cards isn't worth it because you're giving them this free loan. And then here's the other kicker: You get paid if you prepay for starbuck's coffee through your bank account. It makes no difference how much cash there is on hand at any given time - just make sure you pay by credit card when you go shopping.
Every week, Jack Butcher, Bilal Zaidi & Trung Phan discuss what they're finding on the edges of the internet + the latest in business, technology, and memes.
