Degrees of Freedom in Inferential Statistics
Degrees of freedom are the number of limitations that you impose on a set of numbers. So for example say I ask you to guess five numbers, how many things are free to vary without breaking that constraint? First number infinite. Second, third, fourth number infinite. Fifth, it has to be that one number that then gives the mean of 10. Fundamental to everything that we do in inferential statistics.
