An investor in a bit coin et f will still lose upwards of ten% per year, just like an investor in a us oil e t f lost ten % per year due to negative roll yield. The future's price is higher than the current month contract, and the spot price continuing. If we look at the spot price of oil, it's down about ten % on an absolute basis over the past decade. That is also the case for bit coin.
