Navigating the Uncertainty of Back Pain
In the ethnographic study we're talking about, I think a lot of the times they were not necessarily aware of that uncertainty that patients were experiencing. And sometimes both, it wasn't only about clinicians' experience and certainty. Sometimes patients also seemed to be experiencing uncertainty about what made the symptoms flare up. So it was very similar to my own experience, the experience that I just shared with you. There was also something that was brought up. At times, the clinician just dealt with that uncertainty, the patient's uncertainty about what was making the Symptoms flare up by simply changing the conversation and talking about something else. so really dismissing it, unfortunately.
