The Delta Between the Discussion on Taiwan and the US Strategic Community
There's a recognition that if the balloon does indeed go up, Japan will have to be involved. Legal issues would come into play about whether a collective self-defense scenario could be declared in the event of a Taiwan crisis. But more importantly, I think there's a very clear focus on strengthening Japan's ability to defend its territory and maritime domain. And that's what all this build-up in Southwest Islands is about.
