The first half of the work comprises six different carols, six different texts. They really look at the kind of innocence that you might find behind an in an ancient church. Six carols leading up to this amazing, hurtling, violent at times, and virtuoso canon. Three different voices coming in to sing about this little babe rifling satan's fold. And it's almost like a sort of playground brawl in the choir as all the kids try and pile on, singing these different words. But what it shows is actually this seeming picture of innocence, this freezing child in a manger,. with the ox and ass and the shepherds coming and eventually the wi men.
