The threat of a solid, oristic backlash looms large when you use spectacle to keep people in line. Chris Chidi's text says the violence of an anti sodomy prosecution linked to the possibility of mutiny just seems not worth it after a while. This is partly what I find so fascinating about a kind of like political and methodological orientation into these where he calls it queer realism. It's his Machiavellianism.
Featuring Max Fox and Chris Nealon on the late Christopher Chitty's book Sexual Hegemony: Statecraft, Sodomy, and Capital in the Rise of the World System.
