The Roman Senate Is Incensed by the Distribution Law
Gaius Marius was a Roman soldier who fought in the wars of his country. He wanted to give away some of his land to veterans, but there were riots over it. A new law stipulated that all senators had to swear an oath to uphold the law. But metellus refused and marius decided he would be first to take the oath.
