The Demise of the Temple of Pete

Two statues of Mithras, Cortes and quarter parties had been violently broken. Three altars stood in their original positions in the sanctuary apparently untouched. The roof was probably stripped of its shingles because only a few of those were found in ideal conditions for preservation. So it's possible that the whole thing was abandoned and dismantled. It may have been vandalized but its demise was certainly due to the rise in water level.
