The Parallel Types of Suffering

The soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the governor's headquarters. They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, twisting together a crown of thorns. And kneeling before him, they mocked him, saying, hail King of the Jews. So there is obviously horrific pain being put upon Jesus. But there's also a parallel type of suffering that's easy to miss. For most cultures, including Jewish culture, humiliating acts of shame are devastating.
