Sublimation and the Disgrace of the Thing
This is from seminar seven in many ways, where Lacan talks about ordinary objects and stuff being elevated to the dignity of the thing. Now we're going to come to each of these terms and develop them more right now. But surprisingly, the return, the repetition that we were working with in our previous graph is also captured here. This is our field of repetition. So if this is loss, this is lack, and this is surplus, what's the word that we want to use to designate this entity? The imaginary object so often referred to with lowercase fee as the imaginary phallus, or simply the phallus? The word I'm going to use here is supply.
