French Foreign Policy in the Eighteenth Century
The french provided the americans with uniforms and french soldiers, four thousand of em in the first instance. But i think the more ortant thing they did was essentially to bring spain into the war. Britain gave the colonies very, very generous terms at the peace of paris of 17 83. So the french got very, your question, melbon, very, very little in return for this. And as mike said earlier, defeating britain was a ky k aspect of french foreign policy. Ind the eighteenth century it was a key policy objective.
