Rebecca was his first American film. Selznick was like already a fan so he brought him over to make that film. The Guardian described women in Hitchcock movies as quote outwardly immaculate but full of treachery and weakness. They're always very put together at least at the start of the films and we see them sort of get degraded and picked apart from the one. Rebecca is all about that.
