The Importance of Leisure
The idea that work is somehow disgraceful is found in many Greek writers. The Greeks would not have understood the Marxist idealization of work and the worker. Some crafts people, both citizens and medics, achieved high status as a consequence of their technical skills. Surviving examples of these professions include woodcutter and miner.
