Purple Trillium, Ill-Cented Wake Robin or Birth Root
Painted trillium undulatum or trillium erythracarpum in bloom from April to June. Flower spreads its long wavy edged waxy white petals, feigned and striped with deep pink or wine colour. The rounded three angled bright red shining berry is seated in the persistent calyx. Purple trillium unfurls its unattractive, carrion-cented flower weeks after jubilant alert robins have returned from the south.
