Underground publications like Maximum Rock and Roll had a special issue called Book Your Unfucking Life, which told you how to do all of this. There was a label called Simple Machines, which had something called Mechanics Guide, which helped you set up your own record label. The whole thing depended on a kind of deep trust in others, in yourself, and art, specifically music, to carry you all. In a lot of ways, this podcast is an extension of that time.
