Kaufman: I think Kaufman also in a way ignores the psychological nature of this passage. Nietzsche certainly includes himself, I'm assuming he would include himself among every profound spirit that needs a mask. The skin makes us beautiful by concealing what we really are beneath, our inner workings,. We don't really want to see of other people and we don't want them to see it of us.
