The Importance of Meekness

One of the best exercises in meekness that we can perform is that whose subject is ourselves, by never fretting against ourselves and our imperfections. We must refrain from bitter, gloomy, spiteful, and passionate displeasure. How great indeed is the failure of those who abroad act like angels and, upon returning home, are like demons to their kin. For fierce repentance is not in line with the quality of our faults, but rather is attuned to our own inclinations.
