54 - String Theory Part 1: What Is It?

Why This Universe?

CHAPTER

The History of String Theory

String theory solves the issue of nonsensical gravitational force calculations by spreading out any particle's mass and energy over a small region of space. That means that you can no longer get infinitesimally close to the point where the mass is anymore, because the mass is no longer concentrated in one point. Instead, it's spread over some one-dimensional string or maybe a higher dimensional object like a sheet or a membrane. Changing the foundational idea of the shape of particles ends up fixing this major flaw in our calculations.
