The Daughter to Laborer

In 1883 he writes an essay called the daughter to laborer. He was essentially writing back to people who were sort of saying, well, you know, in your novels you're giving these illiterate clods. One of the things they criticizes is when children are going to school from these communities that it starts to interfere with their language. It's a big issue in Hardy.
