The Question of Slavery in the Old Testament
In the Old Testament, we see a lot of evils are tolerated to prevent greater evils. In Leviticus, it says, you shall love your neighbor as yourself. So I would say that the Bible takes human beings in their broken condition and God progressively leads them to moral perfection. But he ultimately leads us, he leads people into the greater awareness of human dignity.
