Neutron Astronomy: What We Learned From Supernova 1987A

Supernova 1987A was 170,000 light years away when it went off. Neutrinos were detected by the IMB in New Mexico. The detection confirmed much of our theory about how massive stars supernovae happen. If we had a supernova go off anywhere in our galaxy, even at the far reaches as the Large Magellanic Cloud, thousands of neutrinos will be detected.
