Robinson Crusoe's Early Adventures at Sea
Daniel Defoe was writing this book at the time when Britain's role as a global trader was really starting to take off, especially across the Atlantic. His very first sea voyage ends in a dramatic shipwreck off the English coast. He's taken by pirates as he tries to become a gold trader off the West African coast and he's enslaved for two years before he eventually escapes - but never sees his parents again.
