The Praetorian Prefects

The master of offices was in charge of the day to day functioning of the palace. The Praetorian Prefects were diocletions innovation that increased central control over the empire. They grouped multiple provinces into dioceses who then had a vicar ruling each one. There were only now two prefectures left, Illiricum and the East, the others having been lost in the West.
