On the night of 28th May, De Gaulle is at the Alize Palace. He has completely lost control of events. The prospect of people storming the Alize seems very real. There was a sort of sense that nobody knows what's going on. Nobody knows how it will be resolved. Francois Mitterrand, who had lost the last presidential election to De Gaulle in 1965, says, there is no more state. Gaiqo Pien Ménes France: I'm also ready to assume power and I'll work with the communists. So they plan this big demonstration for the 29th of May. They are demanding the impossible. What can be more fun?
