The Problem With the Horror Story Hitting the Same Beat

We can't talk about horror without talking about the monster attacking. And this is one of the difficulties that writers of horror have, because we are taught that the hero of the story drives the action. In almost all genres, the hero does, but not in horror. So when you give the make the opponent very deceptive and intelligent in the way they attack, it's going to force the hero to come up with a better plan than just try to escape.
