The three of us sitting here are connected to parents who experienced World War II, but not World War I. How much did experiencing such devastation shape them in ways that made them so effective? That's huge. They also had the Depression just before World War II and the people in England, of course, had the rationing that went on for years after World War II. Those people suffered much. What Homer wrote about was different than what Lewis was experiencing.
