Author robert alecke, in his book challenge for the pacific, writes about admiral ernest king. He was aware that he was respected, rather than beloved, by the navy. In his diary, lieutenant general joseph stillwell called him a, quote, high powered rejector who won't co operate or listen or help. It would be unfair to let army people or foreigners a have the last word on admiral king's personality. But when you hear him quoted himself, he sounds like a guy who just doesn't have any time for people he considers inferior and most people inferior.
Coral Sea, Midway and Guadalcanal are three of the most famous battles of the Second World War. Together they will shift the momentum in the Pacific theater and usher in the era of modern naval and amphibious warfare.
