The Role of Values in Science

The idea of a human activity which is not directed by evaluations and values, I think, doesn't make a lot of sense. The big question here concerns the relationship between different kinds of values in science. We might distinguish between epistemic values such as understanding, explanation, finding the truth as a goal. These are value-laden. Then you have non-epistemic values which involve things like politics and money,. Trying to advance the interests of your country; trying to make money for some particular group.
