Lights at Beechie Head in Eastbourne and the lizard light in Cornwall are going. One by one, many of these massive, slowly turning lenses are being removed. The beam that travels 20 nautical miles out to sea actually comes from a tiny 35 watt lightbulb so small you can hold it in your hand. But mercury, while clever, is also pretty nasty stuff.
