I think metrics can be a good thing, but you need different metrics for different stages in the life cycle of an idea. Non-immediately profit-maximizing behaviours may eventually result in profit maximization. If you tell me I've got this wonderful idea of turning our business upside down, it's quite embryonic, but I'd like to discuss it with you.
