The Importance of Pedarastic Relationships in Military Formation

Ancient Greek sources record incidences of courage and battle motivated by homoerotic bonds. In addition to Plato, other Greek philosophers wrote on the subject of homosexuality in the military. Xenophon took a quite different approach from Phaedrus' speech. The Spartans abhorred the thought of using their relationships as the basis of unit formation because it placed too much significance on sexuality rather than military talent.
