We don't get in trouble by not being able to observe our cognitive processes. It's an extra layer of work to put on the brain to be able to examine what everything that goes into a process. Richard Nisbett is one of the world's most respected psychologists. His work focuses on issues in social psychology and cognitive science. Richard is also the Theodore M. Newcomb Distinguished University Professor of Psychology Emeritus at the University of Michigan.
