CHAPTER

The Bioelectric Pattern That Triggers Eye Development

In the early frog face there's a bioelectric pre-pattern that tells the face where the eyes should go. And so we took that pattern and induced it elsewhere in the embryo. We didn't apply fields or electromagnetics, we modulate ion channels. The amazing thing is when you inject, when you label the RNA so you can see exactly which cells got their channel, what you see is that some of the cells in the eye have your channel. That's my vision for regenerative medicine. Once we understand how to convince these cells of what they need to do, after that it's hands off and you let them do their thing.
