Is There a Danger That You're Going to End Up With a Limited Range of Language?

I understand the idea that it can be very valuable to improve your language by getting very specific and reading everything you can. But isn't there a danger that you're going to end up with a slightly narrow range of language? I like to use the analogy of a rising tide floating all boats. The more that you listen, the more that you read, the more confident you get just listening to this kind of language.
