The Effects of Social Isolation on Loneliness

Studies on the effects of social isolation in animals have observed similar physiological symptoms such as increased amounts of the rodent analogue of human cortisol. A 2019 paper suggested that cattle, so cows can feel lonely and even suggested that you should give them a mirror to try and help reduce their loneliness. A 2023 paper suggested that if you leave the telephone on for pet birds, that also helps reduce loneliness in those animals as well.
