What's the Difference Between Soil and Dirt?

Topsoil is a non-renewable resource that can't be generated in a time scale that makes sense to humans. At the current rate at which we are using up soil or degrading that soil, it'll last for 60 years. The vast majority of topsoil that's not currently being used is located in places where it doesn't make sense to grow. There's actually three times as much carbon dioxide in the soil as there is currently in the atmosphere.
